Hi all!

I finally got into the routine, which I certainly thank at the moment, and found some time to update this.

First weeks of university were quite a mess: timetables fitting, some classes started the second week, another class changed its location, etc... Thanks God everything is more or less fixed now

Apart from that there's not much to say so far. I don't have as much free time as I thought I would, so i'm not moving much (that will change!). For the moment I have to deal with the language in the classes. I can hold a normal conversation in German with somebody, when it comes to classes, it gets veery technical and i can barely understand anything. I can definitely understand more now than before, but I'm still lacking some basic knowledge.

During classes I learn more about how to express my self than about the topic itself... This Xmas holiday are going to be full of studying!

Hola a todos!

Por fin he entrado un poco en la rutina, algo que agradezco en estos momentos, y he sacado algo de tiempo para actualizar esto.

Las priemras semanas en la universidad han sido un lío: encajar los horarios, asignaturas que no empiezan hasta la segunda semana, asignaturas que cambian de ubicación, etc... Gracias a Dios que todo parece estar más o menos fijado ahora

Además de eso no hay mucho que decir hasta la fecha. No tengo tanto tiempo libre como creía que tendría, así que no me estoy moviendo demasiado (¡eso cambiará!). Por el momento estoy teniendo que pelearme con el idioma. Puedo mantener una conversación normal en alemán con alguien, pero cuando entro en las clases, se vuelve muuy técnico y apenas puedo entender nada. Desde luego puedo entender más que al principio, pero siguen faltándome los conocimientos básicos.

Durante las clases aprendo más a expresar que sobre le asignatura en sí... ¡Estas Navidades va a tocar estudiar mucho!

We just finished our German course. We went to Berlin, as I told you we would, and it was awesome. The city is huge but very green. In addition, we went there the 3rd of October, so there were concerts, exhibitions, and lot of people in the streets celebrating the reunification of Germany. We also visited Salzgitter (with a very importat steel production), Wolfenbüttel and Wolfsburg (where Volkswagen is!). I have to say that these past weeks were marvellous, and a big part of it was thanks to the people I met there! It's a pitty it is over, but we will continue seeing us around during the course.

Uni starts this monday. Now this is indeed going to be a challenge, not only because of the language, but because my timetables are overlaying (I have to be in two places at the same time several times per week) and registering for the subjects is also different. All I need to do is to not get stressed...

... and for that I bought something to focus on: a bonsai! It is a "ficus retusa". A friend of mine has had one for several years now and told me is one of the easiest to take care of. I found that important since it is the first one i'm going to look after. It's doing good for the moment, i keep it in the room because it is too cold outside, around 5 degrees celsius (and it's going to get even colder!).

And... well, that's pretty much if so far! I'll try to keep you guys up to date.

Acabamos de terminar el curso de alemán. Fuimos a Berlín, como ya os comenté, y fui estupendo. La ciudad es enorme pero muy verde. Además, fuimos el 3 de octubre, así que había conciertos, exhibiciones y un montón de gente celebrando la reunificación alemana. También visitamos Salzgitter (con una importante producción de acero), Wolfenbüttel y Wolfsburg (donde está la Volkswagen). He de decir que estas semanas han sido geniales, y gran parte de ello se debe a la gente que he conocido. Es una pena que haya acabado ya, pero nos seguiremos viendo durante el curso.

La universidad empieza este lunes. Esto sí que va a ser todo un reto, ya no solo por el idioma, sino también porque se me superponen horarios (tengo que estar en 2 sitios a la veces varias veces a la semana) y porque la matriculación de las asignaturas es distinta. Todo lo que tengo que hacer es no estresarme...

... y para ello me he comprado algo para mantenerme ocupado: ¡un bonsái! Es un "ficus retusa". Un amigo mío ha tenido uno durante varios año y me comentó que es uno de los más fáciles de cuidar. Esto me pareció importante porque es el primero que voy a cuidar. Por el momento va bien, lo mantengo dentro de la habitación porque fuera hace bastante frío, unos 5 grados celsius (¡y aún hará más frío!).

Y... bueno, eso es todo por el momento. Procuraré manteneros al día.

After getting my room almost ready, it was time to find a way of transport. People here use bikes. You can see them everywhere! Public transport is also pretty good, but during the night it is not active. That's why I decided to buy one (bike). My flat mate was leaving last Wednesday, so he told me he would sell me his for 20€. The bike didn't look bad, so I said ok. A week ago, before I bought it, he lend it to me to go to uni. It broke on the way! He was as surprised as me, so in the end I paid nothing.

I still needed something for me to move around, so I went to a second hand bike shop and had a look. They had this niiice looking bike with 1 year warranty (exactly the time i'm going to stay here). I told them I would come the next day and left. Well, when the next day came, I woke up early after some hard partying and, as I was walking into de shop, a woman was coming out... with that exact bike. She just bought it in front of my face! I felt so stupid... I could have just stayed in bed!

In the end I bought a one-week pass until I get my student card, which will grant me free tickets for trams and buses.

We went this wednesday to Hamburg. We checked a couple of churches and the harbour, where some huge, mammoth, cointainer ships where. We didn't see much more and in the end it rained, but the trip was pretty nice.

Next stop is this weekend: Berlin!

Después de dejar mi habitación prácticamente terminada, era hora de buscar algún medio de transporte. La gente aquí usa bicis. ¡Están por todas partes! El transporte público está bastante bien, pero durante la noche se encuentra inactivo. Por eso decidí comprarme una. Mi compañero de piso se iba este miércoles, así que me ofreció su bici por 20€. No tenía mala pinta, así que le dije que sí. Hace una semana, antes de comprarla, me la dejó para ir a la universidad. ¡Se rompió en el camino! (Se partió un tornillaco que mantenía juntos el pedal y los platos...) Él estaba tan sorprendido como yo, así que no me hizo pagar nada.

Todavía necesitaba algo con lo que desplazarme, así que me fui a una tienda de bicicletas de segunda mano. Tenían una bici de que tenía una pinta estupenda con un año de garantía (justo el tiempo que voy a estar aquí. Les dije que al día siguiente me pasaría y me fui. Pues bien, cuando llegó el día siguiente, me levanté pronto después de una noche de juerga y, tan pronto como entraba en la tienda salía una mujer... ¡con mi bicicleta! ¡La compró delante de mis narices! Me sentí tan estúido... ¡odría haber quedado durmiendo!

Al final me compré un bono de una semana hasta que me den el pase de estudiante, que debería permitirme viajar en bus y tranvía de manera gratuita.

Este pasado miércoles fuimos a Hamburgo. Vimos un par de iglesias y el puerto industrial, donde había unos increíblemente descomunales cargueros. No vimos mucho más de la ciudad y después nos llovió, pero el viaje estuve bastante bien.

La próxima parada es este fin de semana: ¡Berlín!

I finally have my internet working here. I must say things are going really well: people is veery nice, the place is awesome and I am having lots of fun!

We started the German course today. I also went to Ikea to buy things because my room in the residence was completely empty (no sheets, no pillow...) except for the pieces of furniture.

Por fin tengo internet aquí. Debo decir que las cosas están yendo realmente bien: la gente es muuy simpática, la ciudad es genial y me lo estoy pasando estupendamente!

Hoy hemos empezado el curso de aleman. He aprovechado también para pasarme por Ikea y comprar algunas cosas porque mi habitacion en la residencia estaba completamente vacía (sin sábanas, sin almoahadas...) excepto por los muebles.

Hi everyone!

I'm sure you have noticed I have not been very active lately. The main reason
is that I have been preparing my Erasmus to Germany (as I told you here: [link]), been stressed sometimes and not been on the best of my moods.

Anyway, I will be flying tomorrow morning to Bremen and then will take a train to Braunschweig, where I am going to, in the end, spend the next year (instead of a year and a half).

I will let you know how things are going. Let's see if something comes to my mind and I end up uploading it

¡Hola a todos!

Estoy seguro de que os habréis dado cuenta de que no he estado muy activo últimamente. La razón es que he estado preparando mi Erasmus a Alemania (como ya os contaba aquí: [link]), he estado algo estresado en ocasiones y no me encontraba con el mejor de los ánimos.

En cualquier caso, volaré mañana por la mañanaa Bremen, donde cogeré un tren a Braunschweig, there voy a pasar, finalmente, el próximo año (en lugar de año y medio).

Os iré contando como van las cosas. Veamos si se me ocurre algo que hacer y lo acabo subiendo
